Engaging students with graduate attributes can be challenging. Students may see graduate attributes as high-level, generic statements and they may find it difficult to translate them for their academic subject. Dr Joy Perkins describes how by using the “Diamond Nine”, an active learning strategy, staff can facilitate students’ discussions, collaboration, and contextualisation of graduate attributes; and enable students to start developing those attributes during their time at the University.
