Active learning via two-stage assessment approach
Priyank Shukla
Higher education has been moving from an era of specialisation to super-specialisation to multi-specialisation courses leading to evolution of multidisciplinary courses. These courses are very challenging to learn because of the number of subjects involved, their diverse nature, and aptitude required to learn them. In this session we will look at a two-stage assessment approach in the context of teaching a multidisciplinary undergraduate program and how it can help in improving student engagement and their learning experience.
An Artificial Intelligence (AI) Learning Simulation Model
Anthony Basiel
In this webinar we explored ways to use AI integrated in a learning simulation. The aim was to inform the impact of AI on the confidence level of students and satisfaction of the Tutors in their learning and assessment process. Assessment events are recorded and auto-transcribed during a 4-stage process, which will be outlined during the session.

Using AI to engage students in active learning
Mary Jacob
As Coordinator for the Aberystwyth University Gen AI Working Group as well as the PGCert in Teaching in HE, Mary is committed to using any new tool or approach to help students actively engage in the learning process. In this mini workshop, she will introduce examples of ways we can use Gen AI with students to promote active learning and critical thinking, rather than serve as a replacement for learning.
In Kahoot!s: Quiz and Leaderboard Gamification in Teaching
Jennifer Mankin and Martina Sladekova
This mini-workshop will provide a brief introduction to the benefits and potential challenges of introducing quiz/leaderboard gamification in teaching sessions, with examples based on our own experience integrating gamified elements in a first-year research methods module for Psychology students. Attendees will test out three different interactive quiz-based platforms for use in gamification: Zoom, PollEverywhere, and Kahoot, with suggestions for making best use of each to promote student engagement. By the end of the mini-workshop, attendees will be equipped to investigate the best options for introducing quiz- and leaderboard-based gamified elements to their own teaching.
